Key learning moments
A deep dive into what has helped me to develop my critical consciousness and what it means to investigate and communicate with a diverse audience and about the challenges our social world(s) face.

Critical consciousness
Seider et al., (2017) states critical consciousness as the ability to engage in reflection and action upon the world in order to transform it. Heberle et al., (2024) goes on the say that critical consciousness refers to an individual’s awareness of oppressive systemic forces within society, a sense of efficacy to work against oppression, and engagement in individual or collective action against oppression.
All though I have a basic understaning of the theretical knowledge of Freire's critical consciousness and deserves more attention in research and discussions as his approach to education and critial analysis of society is important and relevant to the injustice faced by marginalised communities, I still don't quite comprehend how to apply theory to practice Watts, Diemer and Voight (2011).

Investigate and communicate with a diverse audience
Gallicano and Stansberry (2011) describes that an active-learning task is developing strategies and identifying appropriate tactics for diverse audiences where a student may achieve taks like developing a goal, objectives, strategies, etc.
During Module 3: Interrogating the World I participated in the synchronous action - tutorial group - based learning and from that how to assess:
-
Ethics - by asking myself things like what is a "good person"? and what is a "good researcher"?
-
The benifits of mind mapping as a way of breaking our ideas about topics down
-
Quantitative research vs qualitative research
-
Interview - asking myself "what makes a good interviewer"?

The challenges our social world(s) face
Whilst attending Module 5: A World of (Digital) Waste I leant that approxiamtely 10% of hazadaous waste that is produced worldwide is throught the world-wide waste web Martínez et al., (2022).

Asynchronous vs Synchronous
Both asynchronous and synchronous is a type of e-learning mode but with a few differences.
-
Asynchronous is a e-learning mode learning mainly facilitated by media such as e-mail and discussions were learner cannot participate in person and thus a vital component
of flexible e-learning as this learning environment alows one to download documents or send messages to teachers or other students.
-
Synchronous e-learning supported by media such as zoom and breakout rooms which has the potential to support e-learners in the development of learning. This mode of learning is more social in the hopes to avoid
frustration by allowing to ask and answe questions in real time as these sessions help particpants feel less isolated. Hrastinski, S. (2008)
