What has brought me to this subject & how I can contribute

My expectations from this subject is being able to learn how to become more curious and learn how to investigate, communicate and to try and figure out my identity as a learner and university student.

The things I hope to gain from this subject is to be able to understand that a solution to a problem isn't always going to be straighforward. I hope I am able to learn how to problem solve by thinking more creatively, flexibaility w.g. thinking outside the box and to come up with better critical thinking stratigies.

The following contributations I feel like I'm capable of providing:

    • being able to share relevant personal, professional and/or academic experiences

    • uses active listening skills as that will show that I am engaged anad committed to learning from other students in the class

    • actively participate in the classroom e.g. engaging in breakout rooms if I attend the class via zoom

Exploring my positive/negative learning experiences and how these impact me

Doing better at uni than I expected has really helped me see myself differently. It has shown me that when I put in effort, I can achieve more than I used to believe, which has slowly boosted my confidence. I’ve also surprised myself by actually enjoying studying and completing assignments, which has made learning feel more positive. However, my past experiences in high school still impact me because I can slip into negative self-talk and doubt my abilities. Even though I’ve grown a lot, I’m still working on letting go of those old fears and being kinder to myself as a learner.

    My strenghts/weaknesses as an individual

    My strenghts:

    • I’m someone who naturally notices the small details and enjoys being challenged

    • I try to show up to things with a positive attitude and a smile

    • get a lot of satisfaction from helping others when I can see it genuinely supports them

    My weakness:

    • realising that I can be too hard on myself because I want everything to be perfect and I’m afraid of making mistakes.

    • I also tend to be a people pleaser and sometimes put others’ needs ahead of my own

    • while I like being careful and doing things properly, I’m learning that making mistakes is actually an important part of growing and learning.

How the teaching staff can support me

The teaching staff don’t need to provide additional support unless I specifically approach them for help. I’ve been fortunate to have supportive teachers and peers, so I haven’t felt the need to ask for much assistance so far.
